Type of government in Yucatan

Palacio de Gobierno en Mérida, Yucatán
The state of Yucatan is part of Mexico which is officially called “Estados Unidos Mexicanos”. It has a republican, democratic, representative and popular government where the people choose the sovereign in a specific period. The governor, the mayors of the towns, deputies and senators are elected in a poll. The main characteristic of the republican government is that is based in some laws that are established in the Political Constitution of the Mexican republic.
During the years there have been some important changes for example the establishment of the political parties and the creation of the poll where the governor is elected.
The term “republic” given to the state of Yucatan, appeared for the first time in its Political Constitution in 1825:

“Yucatán swear, recognize and obeys the Mexican government, whenever it is liberal and representative, but with the following stipulations: that the Yucatecan union will be a federated republic, and it will have the right of making its own constitution and to establish the appropriate laws.

In 1823, Yucatán is proclaimed a federal republic and it is under a liberal and representative government, as it has been told before in 1825 Santa-Anna finally publicizes the Political Constitution of the State where the power is divided in 3: the executive power exerted by the governor who is elected for a period of 6 years that begins in October 1 of the year of the poll and ends in September 30, the current governor of Yucatán is Rolando Zapata Bello. Then we have the legislative power which is represented by the Congress where there are 25 deputies. Finally we have the judicial power exerted by the High Court of Justice.
